内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Lesson analysis focuses on the utterances made during a lesson. A transcript as a verbatim record of whole communication in classroom is made from the observation and recorded speech data for les son analysis. In lesson analysis, how the utterances each student speaks has been investigated (Shi bata, 1999), to elucidate the background thoughts of each child and his/her statements to better il lustrate the learning process of individual children within a lesson. Such lesson analysis is considered a fundamental research method for theory building in pedagogy. And, while lesson analysis aims to construct theories based on facts, there is an inherent methodological feature: it aims to increase va lidity and comprehensibility at the same time it requires the analyst’s interpretation (Shibata, 2007). In this context, Hanasato (2024b) focuses on pronouns and determiners in students’ utterances such as this, that, these, those. These terms indicate the target, and show, using specific examples, that it is possible to infer part of the speaker’s perception of the target of the utterance by using the findings of linguistic research. In Japanese, there are three types of pronouns and determiners those are KO, SO, A. For example, KORE means ‘this’ as pronoun, KONO means ‘this’ as determiner, while ARE and ANO are ‘that’ as pronoun, ‘that’ as determiner. As for SORE and SONO are intermediate between KORE/KONO and ARE/ANO. Each group of words in KO, SO, A has variety of words indi cating thing (KORE, SORE, ARE), indicating place (KOKO, SOKO, ASOKO), determining thing or person like adjectives (KONO, SONO, ANO), and adding information like adverbs (KOU, SOU). In this study, to increase the comprehensibility of the interpretation of transcript in lesson analysis, the findings of linguistic research on demonstrative pronouns and determiners have been applied to analyzing transcript. The study revealed the following findings: First, through regarding a function of sentence cohesion of SO-demonstratives in Japanese, the transcript-based lesson analysis is enhanced to uncover remarkable concepts that are strongly advo cated by the speaker in an utterance. Second, the passages in which a gradual connection between the occurrence of the A-demonstratives in Japanese and the repetition of the SO-demonstratives were observed in the scenes when students related their own opinions while listening to others’ ut terances, with both listener and speaker understanding each other’s background through the utter ances, although the topic itself was fluctuating. These results show that the linguistic theory of demonstratives may contribute to enhancing the validity of the interpretation when inferring the background of an utterances in lesson analysis.
