| 内容記述 | This paper is an overview of the existing research on imams [Islamic religious leaders] in Europe, which is an aspect of the Turkish government’s program to maintain secularism. Turkey maintains a unique secular system, embodied in the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which in 1984, initiated a program to provide religious services to Turkish expatriates in Europe. This study focuses on the role of imams, religious leaders who are considered state employees. Within European expatriate societies, they are often perceived as social figures who represent Mus lim communities with roles not limited by religious scope. Research on imams can be categorized into three main areas: studies on religious policies related to foreign policy, research on the roles and criticisms of imams active in Europe, and investigations into the training of imams in the European context. Studies on religious policies, particularly from a political science perspective, have demonstrated that the Turkish dispatch system is used to control its citizens abroad by maintaining connection with them; this has led to some tension with European governments. Previous research on imams active in Europe describes a wide-ranging discussion centered on the religious authority and roles of imams. Many of these studies adopt a regional research perspective, providing insights into the realities of imams in a particular area. Research on the training of imams in Europe has gradually accumulated within the fields of area and migration studies, with a notable focus on the background of training programs that have proliferated since the 2000s, in addition to the associated challenges and criticisms that surround such programs. To date, prior research presents three key issues: first, a fixed and static view of imams in the stud ies of Turkish religious leaders; second, inadequate consideration of the origins and backgrounds of imams within area studies; and third, insufficient examination of how imams respond to changes encountered in Muslim immigrant communities. To address these challenges, this study proposes an approach that examines the training and dis patch systems for imams, as well as their activities, roles, and the conflicts experienced by religious leaders at their appointed destinations, framed through a description of the life stages each navigates as an individuals. | |||||||||
