| 内容記述 | This Paper summarizes research that focuses on the major factors that affect the acceptance of international students at higher education institutions, and includes a discussion of the results and issues of previous research based on a thorough literature review. I have organized previous research on the acceptance of international students at higher education institutions in the United States from macro, meso, and micro perspectives, and I have examined the results and future issues of research on international student acceptance policies, cross-cultural adaptation strategies, and the motivations of international students to study abroad. “Macro factors”, “meso factors” and “micro factors” are influenced by the differences in functional types of higher education institutions in the United States. With this focus, I would like to suggest four things that need to be addressed. First of all, it is necessary to survey and analyze the opinions of faculty and staff involved in accept ing international students. At present, most research on internationalization in higher education is based on theoretical or policy research, but these do not directly reflect the practices of higher edu cation institutions, and they do not necessarily clarify how international students are accepted and what kind of educational practices are implemented at higher education institutions. By analyzing the opinions of faculty and staff who are familiar with the situation on the ground, such as those who regularly conduct consultations with international students, it is possible to analyze the educational effects of interactions with domestic students. Secondly, it is necessary to research the conflicts faced by faculty and staff in charge of accepting international students. To promote the acceptance of international students, it is necessary to coor dinate between the department in charge of accepting international students and other departments. However, the impact of the coordination with other departments on the acceptance of international students has not been fully examined. Research is needed to clarify how the acceptance of interna tional students is affected by the state of cooperation within the university. It is also necessary to clarify what conflicts the faculty and staff in charge of cooperation with other departments have and how they are dealing with them. By clarifying these issues, it may be possible to clarify the structural problems that the practice of accepting international students is facing. Thirdly, there is a need for research on the motivations of higher education institutions to accept international students. Research shows that international students expect to gain social, cultural, and economic capital, to prepare for living and working in a globalized world, and to prepare for en tering a research university in their third year. There is already a certain amount of research focusing on the motives of international students to study abroad. However, research on the motives of higher education institutions to accept international students is still insufficient. In other words, the motives of higher education institutions to accept international students have not been clarified so far, perhaps because they are considered self-evident. However, just as international students have diverse reasons for studying abroad, it is likely that each higher education institution also has its reasons for accepting international students that align with the institution’s objectives. Therefore, by analyzing the perceptions of faculty and staff who accept international students, it is possible to understand the reasons for accepting international students from the perspective of higher education institutions, and this may provide practical sug gestions for promoting the acceptance of international students in Japan. Fourth, there is a need for research that analyzes how practices of accepting international students vary depending on the type of higher education institution. Until now, research on accepting inter national students has been concentrated on analyzing research universities, which have the largest number of international students and the most influence. As a result, the differences between re search universities and other higher education institutions have not been fully examined. In the Unit ed States, higher education institutions are classified into the following categories: Doctoral Universi ties (Doctoral University 1, Doctoral University 2, Doctoral University - DP), Master’s Universities, Baccalaureate Colleges, Baccalaureate/Associate Colleges, Associate Colleges, Two-year Colleges, Four-year Colleges, and Tribal Colleges. By analyzing the four types of higher education institu tions (Doctoral Universities 1 (Research Universities), Doctoral Universities 2, Master’s Universities, Associate’s Colleges) that together accept nearly 90% of all international students, it is possible to clarify that the characteristics of international students, the situation regarding the acceptance of international students, and the impact of the functional types to which higher education institutions belong, which have been confirmed individually up to now, are meaningful as a series of connections and are structurally influenced. Furthermore, it is thought that it will be possible to demonstrate the problems that international student acceptance is facing and the limitations of previous research, such as the correspondence between the functional categories of higher education institutions and international student acceptance, which have been overlooked in previous research, and the factors that inhibit international student acceptance. | |||||||||
