| 内容記述 | This study investigates the work-family conflict (WFC), occupational orientation, and coping strategies of Mongolian women raising children while employed, within the country’s transition from socialism to a market economy. Although Mongolia has maintained high female labor participation since the socialist period, recent data show a decline in women’s employment from 72.7% in 1992 to 53.5% in 2024. This suggests that urbanization, inadequate childcare systems, and persistent gender role expectations have increased the burden of balancing work and family. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine employed women aged 26-38 in Ulaanbaatar between February and May 2022. Thematic analysis based on the KJ method identified two main categories: (1) Work-Family Conflict--including job overload, economic dependence, unequal division of household labor, and insufficient childcare support--and (2) Psychological Burden, comprising feelings of guilt and loss of personal time. Background factors were classified into child-rearing environment, cultural context, and institutional issues such as gender wage gaps and limited public childcare access. Coping strategies were largely individual (creating private time, talking with others) or community-based (childcare consultation centers), reflecting restricted structural support compared with developed nations. Participants reported the highest satisfaction with work, but lower satisfaction with housework and childcare, indicating family-related stress as a major source of WFC. The findings highlight the need for affordable childcare services, flexible work systems, and gender-sensitive labor policies to enhance Mongolian women’s well-being and promote sustainable workforce participation amid societal transformation. | |||||||||||||||
