Although the training is very important for the development of children, there have been little scientific studies in this domain. After examining several studies on social interaction skills, we investigated the following 3 aspects of this problem. 1. As our studies aim at the training of skills in the school situation, they have practical characteristics. We discussed in this paragraph methodological problems which originated from those characteristics. We mentioned here that we should start our studies from more complicated and inclusive situations, i. e. from more natural ones. This approach is rather efficient than to formulate the training programs from experimental micro studies. But we think further controlled experimentation is necessary to confirm the effects found in the inclusive studies. 2. Next we examined one case study in 2 ordinary school lessons of the first grade class. After the analysis of the data observed, we attempted to clarify problems underlying the explicit or implicit training processes in the classroom. We found that a teacher, as a trainer of social interaction skills, has a large amount of opportunities to conduct the systematic training. Furthermore, we found inconsistency between the quality of the utterance of a pupil and its evaluation made by the teacher or another pupils. It seemed, therefore, that the school teacher trained pupils for social interaction skills not so efficiently in his ordinary lessons. Of course these data were not sufficient to consider the whole aspects of the problem, and we made reference to the problems that we should research further. 3. Finally, we discussed theoretical problems in the main subject of these researches. First, from the viewpoint of the training in social interaction skills and on the basis of the reinforcement theory, we examined the mechanism that caused human behavior changes. Second, we pointed out 3 aspects which we thought important and necessary to develop social interaction skills, i. e. the satisfactory development of language, the aspect of role-taking, and the reduction of self-oriented needs in group situation.
