The category system is based on the ethological approach, especially the method of identification of behavior elements. TEBLE 2 shows definitions and inter-rater reliability coefficients (γ) of behavior categories. Categories of manipulation were defined by three factors : 1) upper limb-object relations at the beginning of manipulation (catching the object, touching the object, apart from the object), 2) main parts utilized for the manipulation (arm, hand, finger), and 3) characteristics of the action (strength, orientation, dimension, speed etc.). Four complex and four simple objects were presented to the infants. TABLE 3 shows mean frequencies per minute and SD's of each category for 7-, 9-, and 12-month old infants. TABLE 4 shows factor loadings (varimax rotation after complete centroid method) of the categories and other measures.
