We also presented our three points of view about our practice and research in this field. In this paper, we examined a concrete clinical case from our points of view. The client was a boy, M who was 16 years and 11 months old. His parents visited our guidance-clinic to obtain help for their son, who had given up school and was leading an idle life. We had counseling sessions with him 10 times in 9 months and his parent or parents 15 times in 11 months. Through the process of clinical supports, M made it clear that he had no mind to re-enter a high school but to work somewhere. Through the process of counseling he began to improve steadily psychosocially and economically, although he was not fully independent. The client's motivations to consult was not particularly high. The therapeutic limitation lies in the fact that his self-exploration was not fully facilitated under the supportive relationship with the counselor. But it was evaluated positively that he achieved his own selection under the support of the counselor, who had played the role of his brother or senior. Parallel supports were also given to the client's parents. They approached the problems of their two sons and whole family. Through his counseling sessions, the father gradually began to feel relieved and explored farther into the disagreeable and distressful state of his family. He himself became aware that he could not have been a good model to his son. Moreover, the peace of the family was temporarily acquired through this awareness. We certainly felt that a mild atmosphere we attained in the family. The supports to the family were proved to be fruitful to some extent, but the problems of the mother and the younger brother were left unsolved. The considerations from the view-points of clinical adolescent psychology were done according to the results of the counseling. 1) The client's personality development and life history. In this section, we studied the life-historical and developmental approach to deepen our understanding about M's personality. Focusing especially on the interpersonal relationships, we discussed the significance of the parent-child relationship in early childhood and his relationship with his chums in preadolescence. 2) The problem of M's home and the family as a whole. One of the characteristics of M's home was the high tension in his family in general (see Table 1), and his difficulties were closely connected with this high tension. How he had been puzzled and confused by the interpersonal distance within the family was disclosed in the dynamics of the family as a whole. 3) The meaning of the symptoms. We assume that M is calm, "free-floating", superficial and reality-oriented rather than in serious crisis. It can be seen that pattern of his existence is that of a psychopathic patient. It was made clear that his developmental tasks of adolescence were the confrontation with his father, the conquest over himself and the internalization of the paternal principle. It was also pointed out here that identification with one's father is indispensable to adolescence in general. M's case is typical of the anxiety of modern youth, who are called "silent majority" or "the masses without voices", having self-independent selection prolonged in modern highereducation-oriented situations. We have clarified the problem of modern Japanese youth from the various points mentioned above through the diagnostically and therapeutically difficult case of M., 国立情報学研究所で電子化したコンテンツを使用している。}, pages = {131--157}, title = {<原著>登校拒否・家庭内暴力・働くということ : 症例 M を通しての臨床青年心理学的考察}, volume = {25}, year = {1978} }
