The construction is analyzed in terms of sentence structure, range of pragmatic function, and range of emotional meaning. The results can be divided into the following three points. First, although the atypical “passive + intransitive” structure is simple and short, it features relatively strong semantic function. Second, the simple and short structure limits its pragmatic occurrence. At this point it is unclear whether the “passive + intransitive” structure should be regarded as a clause or a phrase. Further observation is needed regarding the context in which the structure occurs, including its cognitive context and sociolinguistic distribution.
