The social attitudes for the present study consist of conservative, radical, and mass-social scales. The questionnaire used is the revised edition of the one administered for high school students. Subjects are 1566 college students. They represent seven subject groups; females of private junior colleges (FPC); males and females who belong to the division of humanities in national universities (MHN, FHN); males and females who belong to the division of science in national universities, and to national and prefectural junior colleges (MNN, FNN); males and females of private universities (MPU, FPU). The major findings are : 1) The mean scores for the radical scale are higher than those for the other two scales in every group. 2) For the conservative scale, mean scores of MPU and FPU are higher than those of the other groups. Means of FHN is the lowest. Mean scores of FPU is the lowest for the radical scale, and is the highest for the mass-social scale. 3) Correlation coefficients between conservative and radical scales, and those between radical and mass-social scales in all groups are significantly negative. And, correlation coefficients between conservative and mass-social scales in all groups are significantly positive except for EPC. 4) The factor analysis based on all subjects produced the following four factors. They are labeled as (I) indifferentism to political problems, (II) conservatism, (III) mass-social conformity and (IV) democratic spirit respectively. 5) The mean factor scores and mean scores of each item in the questionnaire showed that the students of private universities are more conservative than those of national and prefectural universities and junior colleges.
