 note = {We could present four phases in the developmental process of the experimental researches of achievement motive and made a survey of each phase briefly. We sketched Raynor's theory of achievement motivation, an elaboration of Atkinson's theory of achievement motivation in terms which embrace the psychological future. Then a review of studies on Raynor's (1969) elaboration of theory of achievement motivation was made at some length. In our experiment we examined the effects of achievement motivation and contingent future orientation (2 steps path) on level of performance. As predicted subjects for whom it was assumed Ms>MAF answered significantly more problems correctly in the contingent than in the noncontingent path, while subjects for whom it was assumed Ms<MAF answered significantly fewer problems in the contingent than in the noncontingent path. The significant interactions between achievement motivations and two types of pathes could be found on level of performance, as measured by the number of problems answered correctly in all three kinds of tasks (simple, intermediate and complex tasks). Thus the validity of Raynor's theory was supported confirmly concerning the effects of contingent future orientation on level of performance.
