Seventy two junior high school students served as subjects. In experiment 1,each student was asked to describe himself, his ideal self, and his best-liked and least-liked fellows of the same sex on the Self-Differential scales. From these data, the interconnectedness among concepts concerning self and other persons were examined following to the analytical procedure of Kajita (1967). In addition, a measure which has been named \"unwarranted assumed similarity\" (Fiedler, 1951) was calculated for each subject. Results obtained supported Kajita's (1967) assertion; (1) tendency toward assumed similarity was due to idealization tendency and (2) the main effect of affect (like or not) is the idealization of the other person. In experiment 2,subjects were all administered a questionnaire that measured their level of activity. About two months later, they evaluated either of two bogus strangers (high or low in activity dimension) on several rating scales. The ratings of each stranger included liking, desirability, preference as a leader, trustworthiness as a long-term friend, perceived similarity, and so forth.
