Egal ob im geisteswissenschaftlichen oder technischen Bereich: ein akademischer Text ist in gewisser Weise das Gegenteil eines Romans. Während dort die Leserin selbst auf Entdeckungsreise geht und der Autor zu Hause bleibt, sollte hier die Autorin den Leser an die Hand nehmen, ihm Wegweiser bereitstellen und eine klare und präzise Sprache sprechen. Die Autorin sollte einen roten Faden definieren, konsequent verfolgen und somit doch auch eine Geschichte erzählen - aber eben eine ganz andere. Mit einigen Anregungen hierfür beginnt der Beitrag, sie beziehen sich auf Charakteristika der Wissenschaftssprache. Die Hauptthese dieses Beitrags lautet jedoch: Mit einer disziplin-spezifischen Wissenschaftssprache ist erst eine der Bedingungen für erfolgreiche Kommunikation erfüllt. In einer immer stärker vernetzten Welt sollten unter Akademikerinnen keine abgeschotteten \"Kommunikationsinseln\" entstehen, wo intern Kommunikation gelingt, dazwischen aber kaum noch kommuniziert wird. Dies gilt besonders für die geisteswissenschaftliche und die technisch-naturwissenschaftliche \"Inseln\". Das Gegenteil ist erforderlich, wenn heutige interdisziplinäre Aufgaben gelöst werden sollen, ja bereits um relevante Aufgaben überhaupt adäquat definieren zu können. Darum werden in diesem Aufsatz auch Anregungen für Leserorientiertheit und interdisziplinäre Transparenz gegeben: Autoren sollten immer ihre Leser im Blick haben, zu denen auch die secondary audience gehört - wissenschaftlich gebildete Leser aus anderen Fächern. Der Beitrag enthält daher auch Anregungen zur Leserfreundlichkeit und dazu, wie man besonders Nicht-Fachleute teilhaben lassen kann an der eigenen Forschung und ihrer Signifikanz. In the domain of the sciences as well as in letters, academic language is to some extent opposite to that of a novel, where the reader departs on a journey on his own while the author stays home. In academic writing, the author has to take the reader by the hand, to provide landmarks and to speak a clear and precise language. The author should define a thesis statement, thoroughly develop it, logically argue for it, and show its significance to a research community or society. Thus, a story has to be woven together, but one quite different from a novel. This paper starts with some suggestions on how to write such academic texts. But the main thesis is the following: discipline-specific academic language is necessary but not sufficient for successful communication. In an increasingly interconnected world, there is no room for isolated \"communication islands\" where communication flourishes internally but fades in-between – in particular between the \"island\" of the sciences and that of letters. Just the opposite is needed in order to solve today's interdisciplinary tasks, and more importantly to locate and adequately define the most relevant research tasks. Therefore, this paper also contains suggestions for a reader-oriented style and for interdisciplinary transparency.
