Some possible causes for the relationship between speleothem 14C (or DCF: Dead Carbon Fraction) and karst hydrology have been proposed, such as changes in temperature, precipitation, and drip water flow dynamics. Minami et al. (2015) investigated 14C of drip water in Ryugashi Cave, Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, and reported that different DCF of drip water were exhibited at different sites, which had different temperature, air pCO2, and flow paths, and that the DCF in drip waters with conduit dominated flow paths could reflect rainfall amount around the cave. Accordingly, it is important to know DCF feature of drip water in advance on use of speleothem DCF as a terrestrial proxy for paleoenvironment and paleoclimate.
