@article{oai:nagoya.repo.nii.ac.jp:00022849, author = {村岡, 貴子 and MURAOKA, Takako}, journal = {Nagoya University Asian Law Bulletin}, month = {Sep}, note = {The purpose of this article is to discuss what is needed in teaching Japanese for Specific Purposes at universities with a focus on teaching academic writing, based on: 1) findings of previous studies; 2) my teaching experience; and 3) the results of analysis of that experience. The article first establishes a definition of Japanese for academic purposes, referring to similar studies on English for Academic Purposes. Based on that definition, we explain the state of teaching Japanese for Specific Purposes at Nagoya University Research and Education Center for Japanese Law. The article then introduces the concept of a “schema for academic writing” based on all knowledge and skills acquired during academic activities. These skills a re necessary for learners to cultivate during their learning of academic writing. Using that schema, Muraoka (2014) established a hypothesis, namely that academic writing skills are acquired only after learners are able to evaluate text, focusing on its structure and logic properly. Based on this hypothesis, we report on the practical education in Japanese academic writing classes which were offered at a Japanese University. In classes at the university, we used “text analysis tasks” to raise students’ text evaluation and meta recognition ability on their own. Thirdly, we report on the several students’ reflections on academic writing. These students learned academic writing by way of “text analysis tasks.” We also analyze the reflections of three professors who were formerly international students at Japan and who now teach at universities both inside and outside Japan. Consequently, we obtained four perspectives that were helpful in the formation of the academic writing schema; 1) cultivating a meta-perspective, 2) developing self-reflection and a collaborative attitude, 3) developing written communication skills in various genres required of professionals in real world, and 4) continuing extensive learning.}, pages = {25--40}, title = {アカデミック・ライティングの視点から見た大学における専門日本語教育}, volume = {2}, year = {2016} }
