The questionnaire for the social consciousness consisted of 20items in terms of consciousness of the norms and 28items in terms of privatization (see Appendix). The subjects were 841 high school students (377boys and 464girls), and 921 undergraduates (437boys and 484girls). [Tables 1 and 2] Factor analysis revealed that three factors existed in the social consciousness in modern adolescents. [Table 3] Factor 1 was labeled "respect for the norms", Factor 2 was labeled "facusing on his/her own life vs. indifferent to the social affairs", and Factor 3 was labeled "emphasis on one's own sense". Major findings obtained are summarized as follows : (1) High school students and undergraduates generally lay special emphasis on their own senses. [Tables 8 and 11] (2) Undergraduates and girls in high school put their mind, if anything, on the social affairs rather than their own lives. [Tables 8 and 11] (3) High school students and undergraduates also tend to have neutral respect for the norms. [Tables 8 and 11] (4) There are differences in the social consciousness among the students who go to the different high school, and this is also evident in undergraduates who go to the different university.
