For these purposes, a set of instruments for measuring social attitudes and social consciousness were used. Subjects consisted of 921 college students (437boys and 484girls). They were got from 5 student groups : male and female students in national university, male and female students in private university, and female students in city college. Subjects were asked to respond to the questionnaires which contained the following instruments. (1) Social attitudes questionnaire included 39 statements with a 5-point scale (Kuze and Hayamizu, 1974). (2) Social consciousness questionnaire included 48 statements with a 5-point scale (Kuze, et al., 1987). This instrument produced 3 orthogonal factors that were labeled as "respect for the norms", "focusing on his/her own life vs. indifferent to the social affairs", and "emphasis on one's own sense". Based on the total sample, factor analysis was performed for the social attitude questionnaire. Social attitude produced three factors, that is, conservative, radical, and mass-social. These factors were given the same labels as those by Kuze and Hayamizu (1974). Items contributing to each factor were combined into a composited scale. Reliability estimates calculated based on Cronbach's alpha produced coefficients with statistically high levels. Then, in order to examine characteristics of scales constructed, they were subject to the correlational analysis for their interrelational patterns. Results of the analysis can be summarized as follows. [A] Results of social attitudes : (1) The mean score of radical scale was the highest, and that of conservative scale was the lowest. (2) Comparisons of means among 5 college groups revealed that (a) male and female students in private university tended to be more conservative and mass-social than those in national university, (b) male and female students in national university students tended to be more radical than those in private university. (3) Both conservative and mass-social attitudes were found significant negative correlations with radical attitudes. On the other hand, conservative attitude exhibited significant positive correlation with mass-social attitude. [B] Results of social consciousness : (1) Mean of "emphasis on one's own sense" was the highest. (2) Means of "respect for the norms" among male and female students in national university tended to be lower than those in other group. Means of "focusing on his/her own life vs. indifferent to the social affairs" in male students in private university tend to be higher than those in 3female student groups. And, means of "emphasis on one's own sense" in male and female national university and male in private university tended to be higher than those in other groups. (3) The intercorrelations among these scales were not significant. [C] Results of the interrelationship between social attitudes and social consciousness : (1) Both conservative and mass-social attitudes exhibited significant positive correlations with "respect for the norms" and "focusing on his/her own life vs. indifferent to the social affairs", but negative with "emphasis on one's own sense". (2) Radical attitude showed significant positive correlation with "emphasis on one's own sense", but negative with "respect for the norms". In discussion, it was pointed that three scales of social consciousness are effective instrument for exploring social attitudes among contemporary adolescents., 国立情報学研究所で電子化したコンテンツを使用している。}, pages = {41--53}, title = {<原著>大学生の社会的態度と社会意識}, volume = {34}, year = {1987} }
