Likewise, the same can be said of those characterized by school refusal (Ikeda, et al., 1980). If common sense were to be insufficiently developed through family relations, it implies a lot difficulty in merging into horizontal interpersonal relationships (eg. friendship) in lieu of the fact that such deficiency lies on a connotative horizontal axis with the world of others, society and self-evidence. The inadequacy of self-evidence, we assert, constitutes an essential factor in adolescence crisis in general. We also view school refusal as a state at various stages of childhood and adolescence, that is bounded by vertical relationships (eg. parent-child) and that is characteristic of a breakdown in participation into horizontal relationships. The inadequacy of common sense suggests a concurrent condition of a lack of \"Auchsein, \" that is, the lack of a sense that ones self and others share the same basic existence as human beings, despite the fact that each has distinct personality traits and is unique as a person. Such inadequacy may lead to a severe case of existential skepsis or a basic fault-like anxiety. The matter becomes complicated through adolescent crisis, in that the more extensive the pathologic signs, the greater the problem. Generally, in the case of school refusal, the symptoms appear in the behaviour of the subject, but not often can we recognize this in his psychological process. However, when observed carefully, signs can be seen in his confessions such as; \"I am not ordinary because I do not understand what is common sense.\" Failure in participation in horizontal relationships that is due to this Auchsein sense inadequacy has diverse forms in the various stages of development from childhood to adolescence. Our perspective, then, shall be one that focuses on a comprehensive and an integrative categorization of the types of school refusal through the developmental stages. The purpose of this study was to examine the above formulation through several case studies in order to verify it. In case 1,H. S. Sullivan\u0027s theory was applied to the inducing factors of school refusal during childhood and pre-adolescence. Case 2 examined the dominating effect of the vertical family relationship in discouraging entrance into horizontal relationships, from a life-historical viewpoint. Finally, therapeutic suggestions were drawn from case 3,in which the subject was conscious of his Auchsein sense problem. In other words, therapy can be done through facillitation of involvement into horizontal relationships, and frankly responding to such inquiries as, \"How were you when you were my age, \" all with the purpose of promoting Auchsein sense experiences.
