Although endocrinological dysfunction due to TBI was reported a century ago, a few reports were published until recently. Over the past decade, several reports showed that sports related mild head trauma, concussion, also caused hypopituitarism, especially in boxers, kickboxers, or football players. Several mechanisms of hypopituitarism after TBI have been proposed, such as direct mechanical injury, hemorrhage, hypoxia, or autoimmunity against pituitary gland.
