 note = {This review is dedicated to the memory of the late Kazuhiro Suzuki, a Professor Emeritus of Nagoya University who passed away on October 15, 2016. Professor Suzuki contributed immensely to the advancement of geology and related fields by conceiving of the CHIME (chemical Th-U-total Pb isochron method) dating method and putting it to practical use after years of research. CHIME is a dating technique based on the precise electron microprobe analysis of Th, U, and Pb Th- and U-bearing accessory minerals such as monazite and zircon. The method is a non-destructive analytical procedure with high spatial resolution and a unique ability to verify age data obtained. This review presents an overview of the CHIME method and the long-term research path of Professor Suzuki.},
