(1) a. *There has someone eaten an apple. b. *There ate some food a man. (2) a. Það hafa margir jólasveinar borðað buðing . [Ice] there have many Christmas.trolls eaten pudding 'Many Christmas trolls have eaten pudding.' b. Es essen einige Mäuse Käse in der Küche. [Ge] there eat some mice cheese in the kitchen 'There are some mice eating cheese in the kitchen.' Based on this observation, I investigate the derivation of TECs in the framework of Minimalist Program, and discuss why English does not allow TECs and why TECs are restricted to V2 languages. In order to compare non-V2 languages with V2 languages, I assume the following surface structures of there-construction in non-V2 and V2 languages. ((3) and (4) are the examples with unaccusative verbs.) (3) non-V2 languages (ex. English) [TP There [(vP) [VP V Subj]]] (V=unaccusative verb) (4) V2 languages (ex. Icelandic, German) [CP ES / Það [C C-AgrS-T-V [AgrSP tAgrS-T-V [TP Subj tT-V [(vp) [VP tV tSubj]]]]]] (3) and (4) show that the two types of languages are different in two points. The first one is the position of 'there'; 'there' is inserted in [Spec, TP] in non-V2 languages, while it is in [Spec, CP] in V2 languages. The second one is the surface position of subject : subject remains within VP in non-V2 languages while it moves overtly to [Spec, TP] in V2 languages. I propose that the surface positions of 'there' and subject are crucial for convergence of TECs. The derivation of TECs in non-V2 languages is indicated in (5): (5) [TP There [AgrOP _ AgrO-FF(V) [vpSubj tV [VP tV Obj]]]] At LF, the complex [AgrO-FF(V)] must attract the formal features of object (FF(Obj)) in order to check accusative Case and φ-features. However, the subject remaining in [Spec, vP] blocks the attraction of FF (Obj), since the closest features for [AgrO-FF(V)] is FF (Subj), not FF (Obj). Therefore, the derivation of TECs crashes in non-V2 languages. On the other hand, the derivation of TECs in V2 languages is indicated in (6): (6) [CP There [c, C-AgrS-AgrO-V [AgrSP ... [TP Subj tT-AgrO-V [AgrOP _ tAgrO-V [vP tSubj tV [VPtV Obj]]]]]]] As noted above, subject moves to [Spec, TP] overtly in V2 languages so that nothing but trace of subject remains in [Spec, vP]. Therefore, the complex [AgrO-FF(V)] can attract FF (Obj) and the derivation converges.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"本論は、第36回名古屋大学英文学会での発表内容に加筆し、修正を加えたものである。","subitem_description_language":"ja","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_9_publisher_32":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"名古屋大学英文学会","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"},{"subitem_publisher":"The society of english literature and linguistics Nagoya University","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_9_select_15":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_select_item":"publisher"}]},"item_9_source_id_7":{"attribute_name":"ISSN(print)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0914-2266","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"open access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"槙田, 裕加","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"90956","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Makita, Yuka","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"90957","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2019-05-09"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"ivy_30_115.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"726.3 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"ivy_30_115.pdf","objectType":"fulltext","url":"https://nagoya.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/27937/files/ivy_30_115.pdf"},"version_id":"1290939c-d3e9-4e65-aa42-470b9a795f33"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"他動詞虚辞構文の派生について","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"他動詞虚辞構文の派生について","subitem_title_language":"ja"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"1","path":["2388"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2019-05-09"},"publish_date":"2019-05-09","publish_status":"0","recid":"27937","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["他動詞虚辞構文の派生について"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-01-16T04:20:10.073385+00:00"}
