While they had suffered from prejudice and discrimination since the beginning of immigration to America, they had enjoyed peaceful lives by cooperating with each other in Japanese American community. Although they had lived in a dual world-American society and Japanese American community, both worlds were now completely separated. Racial discrimination was publicly admitted, and when they were demanded to answer a questionnaire known as the \"loyalty questionnaire\" in 1943, Japanese American community was also enforced to split to the two parties: the loyal and the disloyal. John Okada's No-No Boy describes how Ichiro, one of no-no boys, which the disloyal were called, struggles to live in American society after World War II. The conflict between the loyal and the disloyal lasts even after the end of the war. Ichiro is despised by veterans that joined the American army and fought for the country, but Kenji, one of the veterans behaves friendly toward him. For he recognizes that the difference between no-no boys and veterans or the superiority of veterans to no-no boys, which seems to be crucial to Japanese American community, turns out to be trivial and meaningless in broader American Society. Undergoing a lot of clashes, other Nisei, as well as Ichiro, come to realize that they are just the \"Jap.\" On the other hand, most of the Issei people, banned from becoming naturalized until 1952, begin to assimilate into American culture. The ending of the novel suggests that Issei's assimilation should be promoted and Nisei's conflicts dissolved. But as for the racial discrimination; which is repeatedly criticized through some remarks of Kenji, we can't find any clues to the solution. Okada's novel, which was published just before the civil rights movement was activated, didn't have enough nerve to argue against racism in America. We should be reminded that Japanese Americans were more urgent for the reconciliation within their community.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"本稿は,2011年度名古屋大学英文学会サマー・セミナー(2011年7月8日)の講演に基づき,加筆修正を施したものである。","subitem_description_language":"ja","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_9_publisher_32":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"名古屋大学英文学会","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"},{"subitem_publisher":"The society of english literature and linguistics Nagoya University","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_9_select_15":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_select_item":"publisher"}]},"item_9_source_id_7":{"attribute_name":"ISSN(print)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0914-2266","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"open access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"佐藤, 清人","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"91538","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Sato, Kiyoto","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"91539","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2019-05-21"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"ivy_45_37.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"805.8 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"ivy_45_37.pdf","objectType":"fulltext","url":"https://nagoya.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/28119/files/ivy_45_37.pdf"},"version_id":"3dab1a0e-7bd0-4736-86c3-41f1792e4488"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"太平洋戦争後の日系アメリカ人社会 : ジョン・オカダの『ノー・ノー・ボーイ』","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"太平洋戦争後の日系アメリカ人社会 : ジョン・オカダの『ノー・ノー・ボーイ』","subitem_title_language":"ja"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"1","path":["2410"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2019-05-21"},"publish_date":"2019-05-21","publish_status":"0","recid":"28119","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["太平洋戦争後の日系アメリカ人社会 : ジョン・オカダの『ノー・ノー・ボーイ』"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-01-16T04:20:27.991341+00:00"}
