The overwhelming and continued sound of artillery on the battlefield constitutes the soundscape of the battlefield in contrast with the “sounds of nature” and the “voices of human beings and soldiers.” Such auditory stimuli make Fumiko feel the fluctuation of her identity and experience anxiety and fear.
