Five years after the opening of a new library, the library staff create signs by themselves to fill the gap between the old signs and their user experiences. Various or too many kinds of signs might confuse people and fail to carry the exact message at once. These difficulties often arise when an original sign system loses its control and uniformity. First, almost all library staff can make the signs freely, which results in unclear responsibilities. Second, most library staff do not know the number, types, locations, and periods of their library signs. Third, old signs in terms of material or content remain in a library even though they are not effective any longer. Fourth, a template for in-house designed library signage does not exist which prescribes a proper font or a basic layout.
