However, a new trend of studying  in  non-English-speaking  and  developing  countries  has  gradually  emerged. Accordingly, in Japan, universities have set up study abroad programs for sending their students to ASEAN countries. In this paper, the author has conducted a case study of selected universities to investigate factors that would influence the decision to establish study abroad programs in ASEAN countries. University faculty members and administrators participated in semi-structured interviews about what prompted them to establish such strategies and programs for dispatching students to ASEAN countries.
