In this paper, I analyzed the location and surrounding landscape of “sacred sanctuary” temples in the Chugoku region in Japan. The Kurumi and Myokanchi temples were constructed on an inherited sacred space from the Kofun period. In addition, temples not facing south, such as the Myokanchi, Yokomi, and Odera temples, were not intended to face south due to the unique circumstances of each landscape.
