This paper consists of major two parts. One is the wave force on a sphere with large diameter, in which the diffraction force is a predominant wave force. The other one is the wave force on a small sphere. In this case, the inertia, drag and lift forces are the major components of the wave force. These forces are governed by a flow around a sphere, and therefore the characteristics of them are discussed experimentally in relation to the results of flow visualizing experiment. The drag and inertia coefficients in the Morison equation are well formulated in this paper. Moreover, new wave force formulae are proposed to enable to evaluate the wave force affected by the proximity effects of the bottom and free surface boundaries. This paper also shows that the applicability of these wave force formulae together with their simplified formulae.}, pages = {84--134}, title = {Wave force acting on a submerged sphere}, volume = {47}, year = {1995} }
