This paper looks at six such controversial issues, as follows: (1) distinction between conceptual representation and semantic representation; (2) cultural factors; (3) whether conceptual representation is static or dynamic; (4) the definition of bilingual representation; (5) type of bilingualism; (6) whether tasks, such as priming task or stroop test, designed for understanding processing on the monolingual field, are appropriate for investigating bilingual representation. Points (1) and (4) are related. It is not necessary to distinguish between semantic representation and conceptual representation, because semantic representations are a subset of conceptual representations. So in addition to lexical representation there is a single level of representation, namely, conceptual representation in bilingual memory. Regarding point (2) I argue that cultural factors deserve closer attention and cite my own work with cultural factors in experimental design. Regarding point (3), I argue that concept representation is dynamic, and discuss my assumptions on the issue. Concerning point (5), researchers should control for the type of bilingual in experiments and should clearly state biographical data, language history, language stability, function of languages, proficiency and language mode of the participants.
