This study investigated how international students from Japan in the United States evaluate their own English ability, and how their global selfesteem affects their comfort level. One hundred and six community college and English school students completed the take-home anonymous questionnaire. Correlation coefficients among length of stay, objective English proficiency(in this study, TOEFL score), comfort with communicating in English, self-evaluation of English ability, and global self-esteem, were generated. Multiple regression analysis was also conducted. The results showed that the students evaluated their English ability with fair accuracy, and that global self-esteem and self-evaluation more than objective English ability and length of stay affected their comfort level. These results implied global self-esteem can be an affective factor in second language acquisition.}, pages = {113--124}, title = {外国語使用における「快適さ」に対する自己評価とセルフ・エスティームの関係についての考察}, volume = {22}, year = {2002} }
