 note = {This study is about friendships in late adolescence. It was pointed out that the adolescent period was getting longer than the past and it included about twenty years today. The extended years was named a transitional period from adolescence to adulthood. For the sake of proposing another point of view of friendships in the transitional period, descriptions in textbooks of some developing psychology and adolescent psychology are summarized at the start. There are many descriptions about best friends and their meanings for adolescents. Second, papers in four psychological journals that are included words, 'friend(s)' and 'friendship(s),' are collected and the papers divided into three classes by their contents. Thirdly, instructions that specified friendships in the methods of the papers are collected. The varieties of friends or the aspects of friendships dealing in the past studies were put in order. They were corresponded to the meanings of best friends in adolescence. Finally, another aspect for investigating the friendships in the transitional period was suggested.
