Roam of a chief charater (we identify him with Ariwara-no-Narihira) resembles it of Yamato-Takeru (a hero of Koziki) very much. Before going down to the west, he went to Ise and met his aunt. He should be protected by a shrine maiden’s power. It is Chapter69 that is equivalent to this scene. It was thought that the title of Tales of Ise came from this famous chapter. However, in this story, the place name such as Ise means an entrance to an eastern country. Titles of Ise-Monogatari means tales which happened in an east country. Yamato-Takeru who brought west countries under control went to an eastern country, and died of an illness there. Consciousness for the east and the west of the ancients reflects the story. Similarly it has also influenced the person image of the hero of Ise-Monogatari. In Tales of Ise, there are fear and yearning for the east everywhere. The existence of Minamoto-no-Touru appears in chapter1 and 81 attracts attention.
