Therefore, importance of building distributed urban databases that can manage the database of urban information distributed on the network efficiently has been growing. On the other hand, a directory service based on LDAP(Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)(hereinafter referred as to LDAP)has attracted attention as a new information repository on the Internet. LDAP has some useful features to manage distributed databases. In this paper, we propose an efficient structure of distributed urban database system using LDAP as a core of database management, and developed a prototype system. The prototype urban database system consists of data provider sites and a management site. The management site uniformly manages distributed databases provided by several data providers. We constructed complimentary function for effective usage of the urban information.
