First, the literature of intrinsic motivation was reviewed and how the findings were theoretically synthesized was discussed in terms of cognitive evaluation theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) and the framework of autonomy support (Deci & Ryan, 1987). It was pointed out that there were few studies about the interaction effect on intrinsic motivation between teachers’instruction and students’ motivational trait. Next, it was examined the interaction effect on intrinsic motivation for academic class between teachers’autonomy support and students’motivational style. Participants were junior high school students (N = 114). The relations between students’academic motivation and their motivational styles were different in the degree of teachers’autonomy support.
