It is commonly said that Ferguson did not have any ideas for ‘economics’ as Smith did. This understanding came from his remark in “An Essay on the History of Civil Society”. When Ferguson stopped writing about ‘commerce and wealth’, he admitted that he was not familiar with the subjects very much. In fact, the author had a particular point of view over the theory which was different from Smith’s one. Ferguson did not change his thoughts after he read Smith’s book. Furthermore, he developed the theory much more fully in his manuscripts. As years went by, Ferguson became to emphasize the moral aspects of ‘art’. According to his usage, art means every activity done by people to achieve a specific purpose. He finally argued the economic activities as a subject of human arts.}, pages = {67--79}, title = {アダム・ファーガンスのスミス「国富論」受容 : 自筆講義草稿を中心に}, volume = {53}, year = {2005} }
