But the form of the maximum principle we use is not so sophisticated that we can only handle optimal problems with simple side constraints. Here, I would like to explain the maximum principle of more extended form, with which, maybe, we could formulate many economic problems with complex equality and inequality side constraints. In that process, the meaning of the maximum principle will become clear. It has elegant economic explanation and gives some insight with respect to the nature of the solution of optimal control problems. But generally it never gives the concrete solution of optimal problems. It is not a convenient tool of our rational behavior.
