Chandler (1962) analyzed GM’s organizational revolution in 1920’s to show that there were two types of the executives – the strategy formulator and the organizational innovator. This means the difference in the personality of the executive leads to the different solution in the process of organizational change. This thesis is : 1. To examine the structural change in GM from the perspective of the multidimensional congruence of E-S-S-P. (environment-strategy-structure-performance), 2. To reveal that the multidimensional congruence of E-S-S-P is realized through a variety of processes dependent mainly on the personality type of the executive, 3. To identify the four types of personality that lead to the different solutions toward the multidimensional fit in order for the organization to adapt to its environment. That is, based on Miner (1997), we identify (1)organization-oriented personal achiever, (2)performance-oriented realistic manager, (3)environment-oriented expert idea generator, ④strategy-oriented empathic super-salesperson, types of the executives. Here we expand Chandler’s third thesis to include four types of the executive. The four types of personality relate respectively to environment, strategy, structure, and performance.
