In this paper, the author will examine socioeconomic variables for the years 1970-2000 for each city (municipality) in Aichi Prefecture, which has advanced industrial areas famous for the automobile industry. Initially, employment of white-collar workers contributed to the productivity of regional industries; however, this positive effect was reversed around 1990 due to the good performance of manufacturing industries, resulting in a totally different pattern. In addition, three types of area characteristics― "industrial-urbanization component," "service economy-white-collar component," and "rural industrialization component"― are extracted by means of principal components analysis, which shows the manner in which class structure varies according to area characteristics.}, pages = {51--63}, title = {Cities and Class Structure in the Advanced industrial Area: Industrial Globalization during 30-year Period in Aichi}, volume = {4}, year = {2008} }
