In this paper, the author will examine socioeconomic variables for the years 1970-2000 for each city (municipality) in Aichi Prefecture, which has advanced industrial areas famous for the automobile industry. Initially, employment of white-collar workers contributed to the productivity of regional industries; however, this positive effect was reversed around 1990 due to the good performance of manufacturing industries, resulting in a totally different pattern.
