Post Keynesianism is often defined in a negative way as the rejection of neoclassical economics. Its impact on mainstream economics profession remains marginal, and it is commonly referred to as a declining paradigm. Nevertheless, such a view failed to reflect the present state of Post Keynesian economics. Over the past thirty years the Post Keynesian viewpoint has been substantially developed in the fields of theory, method and policy. As a result, Post Keynesian economics tend toward a coherent project. There are some central themes that are common to all Post Keynesians. These themes include the importance of effective demand in the determination of the level of economic activity, the significance of social conflict over income distribution, the volatile nature of expectations in an uncertain world, and the endogeneity of money.
