Myrdal insisted that the success in each welfare state should also be understood with regard to world economic and political situation in Beyond the Welfare State published in 1960. First, Myrdal’s methodology and analytical framework are clarified, and then, the theory of welfare world is characterized from the viewpoint of the theory of cumulative causation. Though many studies explain Myrdal’s theory on the formation of welfare state and the theory on building welfare world separately, we try to theoretically integrate both of them by examining his notion of “the nationalist limits of welfare state”. We also analyze Myrdal’s political advice. Myrdal advocated egalitarian reforms and mutual cooperation in underdeveloped countries, on the one hand, and acceptance of new trade and aid policies in developed countries, on the other. He drew the vision of welfare world through active inter-government organizations. However, we point out that Myrdal thought about availability and possibility of the enlightenment of people for building welfare world.}, pages = {85--98}, title = {福祉国家は越えられるか ―ミュルダール 「福祉世界」のヴィジョン―}, volume = {53}, year = {2005} }
