We also propose a direction to improve student services at the university libraries. For our research we surveyed literature on learning commons and interviewed staff at the Ochanomizu University Library, Tokyo Woman\u0027s Christian University Library, and the International Christian University Library. All three institutions are often cited in case studies of learning commons. Through our research, we clarified the current state of the learning commons at the three libraries, the process of their establishment, and operating guidelines. Points in common belonging to all three libraries include a foundation laid in the liberal arts and student services, orthodox organizational management, and collaboration within the university. An especially important point was the swift assessment of situations within the university via intra-university collaboration and instantaneously acting on opportunities. Also, the three universities are unique when it comes to use of human resources, educational aspects toward students, and services appropriate to the circumstances of each library. 内容記述 | The purpose of our research is to clarify the process of establishing a learning commons, as well as to analyze what are its goals as a student service, using Japan's libraries as case studies. We also propose a direction to improve student services at the university libraries.
