This paper aims to analyze the process of the evaluation and the lessons to be learned from it in order to improve the quality of education in liberal arts and sciences of in the University. 1. In Nagoya University, education of liberal arts and sciences had been managed by \u201ccommittee-centered system\u201d with participation by professors of each school or graduate school. The system had worked very well but experienced some problems and limitations. It was replaced by \u201cheadquarter system\u201d in 2001 in order to improve the quality of education of liberal arts and sciences in Nagoya University. 2. The needs of security and protection of intellectual property rights make it difficult at present to provide open access online to the full syllabuses of liberal arts and sciences. 3. 内容記述 名古屋大学教養教育院は学位授与機構による「教養教育」評価を経験した。作業の概要と学位授与機構とのやりとりの過程で特に説明を求められた事項のうち、公表に耐えかつ有益と思われることがらを幾つか紹介するとともに、今回の経験から得られた教訓の一端を示した。1.本学の全学共通教育は、従来、学部選出の委員を構成員とする委員会方式により管理・運営され、充分な成果をあげていたが、委員会方式は、カリキュラムの管理には適するが、改善の面では限界があるので、ヘッドクオーター方式に改めた。2.知的財産権の保護及びセキュリティ上の理由により、また教育・研究の自由の確保の見地から、ウェブによるシラバスの一般開示は、今のところは、困難である。3.普段から、教養教育の効果判定の資料となるような学内外に対するアンケート調査や教務資料の分析整理をすることが重要である。 The Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nagoya University has undergone “self-evaluation” process by the National Institution for Academic Degree (NIAD).
