内容記述 | It may bring a clue for clearing out the origin of atmospherics to study simultaneously the rapid electric field change and the flash light radiated from near-by-thunderstorms. As for the photographic study of the fine structure of lightning discharge, it is necessary to use a kind of rotating camera - Boys' camera - of appropriate features,which may be summarized as follows. It must be provided first with the sufficiently high photographic image sweeping speed of about 30-40 meters per second,secondly the wide field of vision which is nearly as wide as 100 degrees of angle,thirdly the large relative aperture lens,which enables us to photograph the low brightness portion of lightning discharge. Discussing the design of such fast Boys' camera as that,which satisfies the above conditions, we have reached to the conception of a camera system, which has been constructed from rotating polyhedral mirror and photographic camerae of Leica type,which have been arranged around the mirror. It may be said that this is a variation of Walters' camera,as he rotated the camera itself instead of our rotating mirror. By the camera system with a polyhedral mirror of twelve faces and twelve camerae of Leica type,which surround the former,we can obtain the field of vision covering the four right angles. More-over in such a case, that the obstacles arising from the presence of the blind angles between the successive visual angles,which are nearly as wide as 15 percent of the latter can be looked over, one octagonal mirror and eight camerae around it will satisfy our requirement of the continuous wide field of vision covering four right angles. As a preliminary case the camera system with a mirror of four faces and a camera has just been constructed. Although the instantaneous fields of vision of this camera of about 20 degrees of angle are inserted individually between successive blind angles of about 70 degrees of angle,but the rotation speed,which corresponds to the image speed of 40 meters per second, covers this defect,and we may be able to expect to photograph the so-called stepped leader, provided the leader exists and has the duration of the order of 10 milli-seconds. | |||||
