内容記述 | The thunderstorm observation to test the performance of our several electromagnetic recording apparata for thunderstorm observation constructed in our Institute was carried out in summer 1954 at the city of Maebasi. The apparata used in this season were atmospherics waveform recorder specilly designed for thunderstorm observation, electro-static field meter with rapid time response, tuned type atmospheric mean intensity meter for thunderstorm, and nondirective tuned type lightning counter as a thunderstorm activity indicator. Our detailed investigation of the records obtained at five thunderstorms in this season leads us to the conclusions as follows: Any variation in form of a peak in the distribution curve of frequency of lightning occurrence can be made to indicate some thunderstorm activity within the range of 100 km. or more from the observation, provided that the electromagnetic apparata are subjected to the adequate adjustment. The time of peak occurrence in frequency curve coincides with each other in our three methods of observations. The height of the peak in frequency curve of lightning occurrence can be used as a rough estimation of the activity of the storm. The variation in the intensity of individual electromagnetic effects of lightning discharges with time indicates also a peak in the intensity distribution curve, which corresponds to some thunderstorm activity, if the storm presents itself within 20-30 km. from the station. Effective range of our electrostatic field meter to record the electrostatic effects of the storm has been estimated to be of the order of 30 km. aroud the station. It has been revealed also from our observation that the time of peak occurrence in lightning frequency curve does not always coincides with the time of thunderstorm occurrence which was observed by visual method, and that the thunderstorm activity observed in this season took place during the descending period of the slow change in electrostatic field intensity. This fact will indicate that the lightning discharges took place for the most part at the front side of the center of negative cloud charge at the lowermost part of the thundercloud at that time of the observation. | |||||
