| 内容記述 | The present installment deals with the objection by the Bhātta school of Mīmāṃsa on how to grasp absence, and Śaśadhara’s answer and final view. A series of translating his Nyāyasiddhāntadīpa with annotation ends with this installment. The Bhātta philosophers take the view that absence is grasped by the means designated as non-cognition (anupalabdhi), which is not included in the other means of cognition (pramāṇa): perception (pratyakṣa), inference (anumāna), analogy (upamāna), testimony (śbda), and logical assumption (arthāpatti). Śaśadhara, on the other hand, holds that absence is grasped by the means designated as perception, which is nothing more than sense organs. In some case, however, he holds that grasping ‘absence in retrospect’ (prāṅnāstitā) takes place through the function of the internal organ (manas); he does not definitely state how that function causes recollection which triggers the inference of such absence. He concludes his discussion with presenting the conditions for grasping mutual absence (anyonyābhāva) and relational absence (saṃsagābhāva) by sense organs. | |||||||||
