| 内容記述 | In this paper, I carefully examine why David Graeber, an anthropologist, considers ancient Babylonian tablets contained in cases as credit money, and how Eiji Sakurai, a historian, compares medieval Japanese checks/notes to contemporary central bank notes. Then, I point out that they reach a seemingly appealing conclusion that credit money was circulated in ancient Babylonia (due to Graeber) and medieval Japan (due to Sakurai) by not presenting any historical evidence, but confusing transfer of ancient/ medieval debt instruments with circulation of modern money. | |||||||||
