There is a big task to construct theory about the child protection practice to achieve accountability, and it is required to impart the clinical wisdoms accumulated in the field of a child guidance center to the next generations. This paper starts with an overview of the research from the field of a child guidance center, and then considers the whole concept of the research methods for the model construction from the child protection practice. While a case study has an important role in clinical psychology, it is not easy for the workers of a child guidance center to have opportunities to report their own practices due to a matter of research ethics. Ideally, parental consent to a case report should be obtained prior to initiating treatment. However, it is almost impossible to do so because child maltreatment cases at a child guidance center often begin with a confrontational situation. In effect, the only way to conduct a case study about the practice at a child guidance center is to get parental consent after a successful family reunification. The Grounded Theory Approach (GTA) is a research method for looking systematically at qualitative data with the aim of generating theory. Although it is hard to elicit consent to a case report from the parents of irreconcilable cases, researchers should be able to gain the cooperation from the workers of a child guidance center to gather narrative reports. A hypothesis generated by GTA, which integrates the narrative data of the workers, is helpful to understand the child protection process. This paper mainly focuses on the qualitative research methods.
