内容記述 | This study aims to re-evaluate Yeh Tao, a Taiwanese writer of Japanese literature of the Japanese Colonial Rule Period, via re-reading her only work "Ai no Kessyô" (lit. "Crystallization of Love"). First, this study elaborates the relationship between La Formosa Nov-Literaturo (which published "Ai no Kessyô") and the Japanese magazine of the left La Givdanto Literatura while raising questions about the review given by the editor Kishi Yamaji. Next, this study identifies the similarities and differences between " Ai no Kessyô" and other previous Japanese proletarian literary works of female writers in the 1920s and 30s. Then, an analysis of the context of the disputes in Japanese proletarian literature brings out the fact that marrying-in-love. and therefore "Ai no Kessyô", were dismissed as insignificant. Romantic love ideology was introduced to Taiwan by overseas students back from Japan during the 20s. Originally a successor of the Taisho discourse on love, in Taiwan it was intertwined with social movements. Furthermore, this study offers the perspective of "female students community", which clarifies the historical setting of "Ai no Kessyô" based on the emergence of female students and women' s and peasants' movements in Taiwan during the Japanese Colonial Rule Period. Finally, referencing to Adrienne Cecile Rich's "lesbian continuum", this study argues that with the ideal of fighting against colonialism and feudalism with cross-class female coalition "Ai no Kessyô" is beyond proletarian literature. Previous studies focused on Yeh Tao's identity as a wife, which inevitably made her subordinate of men. This study argues that she carried the motif of the female writers in Japanese proletarian literature forward to a whole new horizon in the unique backdrop in Taiwan, and hence that Yeh Tao is entitled to represent literature of Taiwan of the era. | |||||
