内容記述 This paper argues that C is a locus of Case/agreement and the C-T configuration is responsible for Case assignment to the subject of both finite and nonfinite clauses. Mainly drawing upon English data, it is first shown that T with the complete set of φ-features is both insufficient and unnecessary for Case assignment to subjects, as opposed to the standard analysis of Chomsky (2000, 2001). Especially relevant for the proposed system of Case/agreement are nonfinite clauses with nominative subjects, which are argued to be licensed under the C-T configuration where a finite C is merged with TP whose head is φ- incomplete. Consequently, the proposed system leads to a unified analysis of Case/agreement in finite and nonfinite clauses, where the subjects are uniformly licensed under the C-T configuration with different Case realizations (nominative vs. accusative) depending on the properties of C as a probe.
