Four kinds of secondary structure breakers (proline, glycine, small polar residues and amphiphilic residues) were revealed previously (Imai \u0026 Mitaku, 2005, 2007). In addition, the inverse charge symmetry, which drives the formation of hairpin structures, was studied in globin fold proteins, typical all-α type proteins. The inverse charge symmetries were positioned at about two thirds of loops region that do not contain the predicted breakers. Therefore, the charge symmetry is the most plausible mechanism for the fifth type of breaker.
