In the previous paper, I argued that the “Chojū-giga” does not fit into the modern anthropological definition of animism which is formulated by Philippe Descola, but rather is based on the concept of analogism. It is generally understood that analogyism is characterized by the work of power to unify a large number of beings into one, and as a result, becomes the basis for the creation of a centralized royal power. However, on the other hand, in order for the centripetal force to work, it is necessary that there is also a centrifugal force that opposes it. In my opinion, these two forces were shared by the emperor of the time and the retired emperor of his father in the Insei regime that emerged in Japan at the end of the twelfth century. 内容記述 | This essay is a continuation of my previous essay, “Chojū-giga” and Animism. In the previous paper, I argued that the “Chojū-giga” does not fit into the modern anthropological definition of animism which is formulated by Philippe Descola, but rather is based on the concept of analogism. It is generally understood that analogyism is characterized by the work of power to unify a large number of beings into one, and as a result, becomes the basis for the creation of a centralized royal power. However, on the other hand, in order for the centripetal force to work, it is necessary that there is also a centrifugal force that opposes it. In my opinion, these two forces were shared by the emperor of the time and the retired emperor of his father in the Insei regime that emerged in Japan at the end of the twelfth century.
